Yamashita Seizes Moving-Day Lead at Aramco Korea Championship as ‘Pink Saturday’ Drives Life-Saving Impact
Moving day at the Aramco Korea Championship produced high-stakes drama at New Korea Country Club, with Japan’s premier ball-striker Miyu Yamashita delivering a clinical display to anchor herself at the top of the leaderboard. The 25-year-old major champion and reigning LPGA Rookie of the Year relied on her trademark precision iron play to navigate the course's testing slopes, asserting her command over the marquee 72-hole PIF Global Series event. However, the World No. 5 faces a tense final-round showdown on Sunday, with former World No. 1 Yani Tseng and France’s Céline Herbin mounting aggressive weekend charges to keep the championship battle wide open.
That steady rhythm and well calculated shot-shaping have become the hallmark of Yamashita’s game, which is a blend of instinctive shot-making, razor-sharp reflexes under pressure, and the patience to pick apart challenging layouts rather than overpowering them.
"This course demands complete discipline; you can't just attack every flag, you have to read the slopes and adapt on almost every swing," said Yamashita, reflecting on her strategic mindset and feel around the greens. "My ball-striking felt natural and in control today, especially on the approaches where distance control is everything. Playing in front of such passionate Korean galleries brings out an extra level of energy. When the pressure dials up, I just trust my instincts, stay patient, and let my preparation take over."
Beyond the leaderboard battle, New Korea Country Club was washed in vibrant shades of rose and magenta on Saturday as the championship dedicated Round 3 to ‘Pink Saturday’, partnering with the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation (KBCF) to champion breast health, early detection, and care for those affected during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Players, caddies, fans, and staff stood united in pink apparel and symbolic ribbons, while the tournament hosted KBCF patients, families, and supporters to celebrate the day alongside more than 150 community guests, including Korea Food for the Hungry International, Rainbow Stepping Stone Foundation, and students from Suhmoon Girls Middle School and Kyung Hee University, who took part in dedicated clinics and behind-the-scenes tours.
On the course, that compassion was met with pure competitive heart on the par-3 15th, where Golf Saudi pledged five life-saving mammograms for every birdie carded. Under moving-day pressure, eight players delivered clutch moments to remember, Stephanie Bunque, Celina Sattelkau, Anna Zanusso, Sara Byrne, Alessandra Fanali, Patricie Mackova, Anne van Dam, and Leonie Harm, each receiving commemorative KBCF 925 sterling silver bracelets alongside young clinic standouts to honor their impact.
To ensure the day reached even deeper into the local community, Golf Saudi elevated the initial screenings with an additional contribution set of mammograms for Korean women who need them most and turning world-class golf into direct, life-saving preventive care.
With the stage now set for Sunday’s finale, all eyes turn to the final 18 holes at New Korea Country Club to crown the individual champion. As another grandiose chapter of the PIF Global Series reaches its crescendo in South Korea, the tournament stands as a powerful testament to Golf Saudi’s unwavering vision: continually elevating women's golf on the world stage, creating unforgettable global sporting spectacles, and redefining what it means to leave a lasting legacy both on and off the course.
